Hi Durwood,
The mod is super easy. All you need is the appropriate screwdriver and a pair
of wire cutters.
1. Unplug the unit from the wall(duh)
2. Remove the top cover with two screws on the back of the unit. Be careful
to not yank the speaker leads off.
3. Turn the scanner so that you are looking at the guts from the back of the
unit.
4. Look inside right behind the keypad on the left hand side you will see
two small resistors. I think they are D501 and D503 but they are the only
ones in the vicinity.
5. Cut one leg of each resistor and separate the two parts slightly so they are
not touching.
6. put the unit cover back on and plug in(double duh)
There, you are in business. One of the resistors(can't remember which one) is
for the cell mod and one is to slightly speed up the scan rate. Then do a limit
scan from approx 869mhz to 890mhz and hear the calls. BTW, listening to cell
calls is prohibited. Have to throw that in you know. This mod is only meant
for technical experience and not for that voyueristic intent.
This desciption is merely from memory, you may want to consult the scanner
modification handbook for further details.
